TITLE: Easy and Affordable Enhancements for the HP3000 Homesteader (Part 1 of 2) We all know how costly and non-trivial performance and functional upgrades to our beloved HP3000's can be.
Who has not heard tell of attempts to step up to a faster HP3000 CPU with the promise of orders of magnitude of performance benefits - only to be thwarted by exorbitant software license upgrade fees.
Or costly and lengthy application redesign with the objective of squeezing optimum performance out of sluggishly-performing systems.
Are there many things more satisfying to the HP3000 Systems Administrator than to learn of ways to achieve the seemingly impossible combination of improved performance and/or functionality together with a very modest expenditure of time, effort, and cost?
This presentation identifies some very quick, effortless and inexpensive ways to get more performance and functionality from your HP3000 system thereby extending its useful life for the homesteader or buying more time for those that see transition in the future.

TITLE: Homesteading: Plan for the Future (Part 1 of 2) Because of the announcement on November 14, 2001 by Hewlett-Packard of the end of sales and support of the HPe3000 product line, MPE/iX customers have had to assess their future MIS directions. There are a variety of choices open to these companies. The main challenge is to make the proper choice and plan for the future.
The strategic planning process for the future is very important to the success of the company and the achievement of their long-term goals. Market place and technology changes will dictate that the company be flexible and have a well thought out direction defined. Without a comprehensive plan, survival will be difficult. This presentation addresses the situation of companies who will not migrate to another platform until sometime in the far future, if ever. We will discuss the choices the company has available and what planning steps they need to take to properly face the future. Hardware, software, personnel, and technology issues will be explored.

TITLE: Disaster Recovery for Homesteaders (Part 1 of 2) The term "homesteading" comes from the days of the pioneers that settled in the mid-west and western United States. That situation usually meant that you were far from your nearest neighbors and had to be self-supporting. Also, you had to plan for disasters of many kinds such as storms, attacks, medical emergencies, lack of food and other supplies, and equipment repairs. As an HP 3000 customer that continues to get cost effective and reliable use of your equipment for many years into the future, you must be self-sufficient and plan for modern day disasters to ensure a stable and protected environment. |

Over the past five years, hundreds of current IT situations have been reviewed. During this process, a very real need for planning in areas of sustainability and business continuity has risen.
There is no one cookie-cutter answers to MPE Migration questions. No "one-size-fits-all" approach guarantees success. This presentation begins the planning and discussions on the steps involved in a Migration and the Risk Mitigation associated with transitioning your environment.
What attendees will learn? * What you need to understand about the complexities and issues surrounding Data Migration * How to determine the criteria for the new application, including current and future functionality * What business issues must be solved in the process, from formulating a budget (application selection process/capital cost/transition process) to developing a project plan with milestones to manage their teams through the transition?
