Plan a visit to nearby Cape Lookout National Seashore, where wild side reign again.Cape Hatteras is a lot of fun and has a large support infrastructure for the traveling public. But sometimes it's nice to dial things back a little, plan a little more self-sufficiency, and see how things used to be on the Outer Banks.

Therefore, if you want to visit, you must take a ferry.Only two of the three islands of the sea are open to vehicles - major banks in North and South major banks. And you do not take a vehicle down 1) This is a four-wheel drive, 2) You know about the reduction of air pressure in your tires and inflate a way for them, and 3) You 're driving at home in the sand, which can feel a little like driving in the snow.
For those who will pass a car, visits to Cape Lookout range from excursions to visit the lighthouse or Shackleford Banks wild horses to see extended to walking with either a backpack and camping equipment necessary or reservation in one of the booths either at Big Island on the main banks or the South Camp Long Point on the North's major banks.
